FAQ
What materials can you pump?

WEM Pumps are built to transfer molten salts, molten zinc, molten aluminum, molten tin, molten sulfur, other molten metals, and high temperature industrial byproducts.

At what temperatures can the pumps operate?

WEM Pumps can handle the transfer of molten materials at temperatures up to 1700°F (926°C). In certain conditions the pumps can operate at higher temperatures, please contact us for information about these use cases.

What is the pumping capacity of a WEM Pump?

Pumping capacity varies by the length of the pump you order. A 10ft WEM Pump moves 200,000 lbs of material per hour with 80 PSI/75CFM (cubic feet per minute).

How do I determine what size pump to order?

WEM Pumps are made to order in varying lengths to meet your specific needs. To determine what length pump to order (pump lift), measure from pumping depth to 6 inches above the rim of the kettle. PUMP IS NEVER PLACED ON THE EXTREME BOTTOM OF KETTLE TO AVOID DROSS INTAKE. The inlet port at the extreme bottom of the pump must be completely submerged at all times during pumping. Maximum pump length is 10 feet.

How do I clean the pump after use?

WEM Pumps are designed with three holes in the column, which serve as a built-in maintenance device to clean the pump after use. After pumping, simply lift the pump out of the material and allow to drain completely before cooling. The holes do not affect pumping function.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes! WEM Pumps are made in America and can be shipped anywhere in the world.

Where are WEM Pumps made?

Our pumps are proudly made in the USA with American materials.

Do you sell spare parts?

Yes, we sell spare parts for the routine maintenance and upkeep of a WEM Pump. Contact our team for more information.

How do I troubleshoot a pump that is not working

1. Ensure that the impeller has enough clearance. The impeller must be 1/8” from the bottom casing in order for the pump to work. To adjust the clearance, simply loosen the coupling bolts and adjust the impeller to 1/8” clearance. Be sure to retighten the bolts before using the pump.
2. Check the airline hookup to the air motor to ensure that it has not been reversed.
3. Check for material jammed in the pump. This is caused by improper use including failure to pre-heat the pump and discharge piping properly prior to submerging, or by attempting to pump solid materials like dross. WEM Pumps are NOT dross pumps.

Can the pump be used continuously, as in production operations?

WEM Pumps are a maintenance tool to empty kettles. We do not recommend using a WEM Pump for continuous use applications.

How long does it take to receive my order?

WEM Pumps are custom built to your specific needs and are typically shipped within 3-4 weeks.

We created the original WEM Pumps in 1950 to replace hand ladling molten solutions. We’ve maintained the simplicity and principles of our original pumps, but have adapted our designs and materials to meet the demands of modern industry.
